Woldingham Hill

My husband and I made the mistake of attempting this circular walk when our baby was a few days old with the buggy and had to abort it after several amusing but failed attempts at pushing the buggy up the short but extremely steep hill at the beginning of the walk so this isn’t one to attempt with even the off-road buggies. With a sling though this is one of my favourite walks – with stunning views across the fields from the hill and a definite sense of achievement getting to the top you then walk through woodland which is much flatter, a very short stint along the road/ a path next to it before walking across a field to hit a narrow path that leads you back down close to where you started with views of rolling hills to your right. If you’re lucky you might spot one of the red kites that often fly overhead!

Walk Length, Duration and Available Routes
The circular walk is around 5km and took us about 1.5 hours walking at a leisurely pace.
Coming from Southfields Road turn right and walk down Slines Oak Road until you hit a dirt track on your right after about 150m. Follow the dirt track until the cow fields and walk directly up the hill (don’t be tempted to follow the clay path). Once at the top you will find a path going into the woods – follow this until you reach a road called The Ridge. Turn directly right (beware there is no footpath so you will have to walk on the road for around 100m). After there will be a path on the left winding through the woods in parallel with the road until you reach a carpark (this could also be a good start point for the walk). Walk through the carpark and cross over the road. Walk through the field keeping the fence directly to your right. Walk over the stile and carry on all the way down the path. The path will end up coming out on Southfields road so turn right to get back to the beginning.
Walk Location
Woldingham Hill, CR3
Free parking on Butlers Dene or Southfields road or if you start at the Woldingham Viewpoint on The Ridge you can park there
Pubs or Coffee Shops?
This particular route doesn’t go via a pub or coffee shop but is within a 5 minute drive of the Woldingham Village Club (pool and snooker table, darts and shows sports matches on TV), Knights Garden Centre (Woldingham or Chelsham), Amanos (good all day brunch) and Botley Hill Farmhouse or The Sheep Shed (great food and service and panoramic views. Sit down meals in the pub and sandwiches and cake at The Sheep Shed)
Suitability of walk for buggies?
Not suitable for any type of buggy in summer or winter. Definitely a sling walk!
Walk Type
Uphill on grass at the beginning, then flat and wooded and finishing with a downhill wooded path
